Description
Bespoke Brown Oak Live Edge Bench with Dovetail Joints
A beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind solid brown oak bench, handmade in Britain from an exceptional piece of reclaimed timber sourced in France.
The bench was commissioned using a rare 3.5-metre length of naturally dark brown oak salvaged from a French antiques dealer. Rather than cutting the timber into conventional furniture components, the design celebrates its natural character, grain and irregular edge.
Rare Reclaimed French Brown Oak
Brown oak is prized by cabinetmakers and furniture enthusiasts for its distinctive rich colouring and characterful grain.
The timber used for this bench has a particularly interesting history, having been sourced as an old, substantial length of oak in France before being brought to Britain and transformed into a contemporary piece of furniture.
The seat retains its natural waney edge along one side, while the opposite side has been cut straight, creating a balance between rustic character and clean architectural lines.
Traditional Cabinetmaking and Dovetail Joinery
The bench was made by a skilled UK cabinetmaker using traditional woodworking techniques.
Its carefully executed dovetail joints are both a structural feature and an attractive detail, giving the bench a distinctive handcrafted appearance.
The design allows the natural beauty of the solid oak to take centre stage, with minimal ornamentation and an emphasis on honest materials and craftsmanship.
A Unique Dining or Hallway Bench
At two metres long, this solid oak bench would make an excellent companion to a farmhouse dining table or a striking standalone piece in a hallway, kitchen or country house.
Its combination of reclaimed French timber and contemporary British craftsmanship makes it equally suited to rustic and modern interiors.
